What is Vellum
True vellum is made from mammal skin that has been soaked, limed and scudded and then dried under tension. However this is not what we use in scrapbooking. The stuff we call vellum in scrapbooking is actually a modern imitation called paper vellum and is made from plasticized cotton. It is translucent and when placed in a strong light it is useful for tracing things.
Vellum is a specialty paper and there are a few tricks to remember when working with it. Vellum is not as porous as many other papers that you use. So you need to remember that inks and adhesives will not be absorbed as quickly. Other thing to remember with vellum is that is semi see through, so be careful what you use to stick it on to your pages.
You can buy special glue or tape for vellum and it is a good idea to use it. There is nothing worse than having an awesome scrapbooking page wreaked because adhesive is showing through the vellum. Sometimes I even attach my vellum using brads or eyelets. That way I am not left with any chance of having adhesive showing
